Bear Rescue

The "bare necessities of life" included a net and a pole from an army surplus store after a bear was stranded on the ledge of a bridge over a ravine in California.

The Bruin bear was crossing Rainbow Bridge on Highway 40 near Truckee when he jumped out of the way of two approaching vehicles.

He ended up clinging to a ledge - for almost 24 hours. Eventually authorities were able to secure a net beneath the bear and tranquilize him before lowering him to safety.
