Google AdSense Jackpot!!!

Here's a follow up on the 'Entrepreneurs Forum' below . . . Markus Frind, Founder of PlentyofFish.com (a free online dating service) really did get a check for $900K+ from Google's AdSense (and one for over $130K too). Damn! Is that possible???? I did see that he recieved a few billion page views (12 billion to be exact) on his site last year - but $1MM from Google's AdSense program - thats almost unheard of . . . I think???

Entrepreneur Forum

One of the Silicon Valley's most connected VCs (and former Chief Apple Evangelist), Guy Kawasaki, interviews a few successful entrepreneurs about how they got started with their business. Hosted by The Churchill Club of Silicon Valley, this is a great video for budding young entrepreneurs.

From Guy's Blog:
Markus Frind, the founder of PlentyOfFish.com is my new hero (James Hong of Hot or Not is a close second). Marcus spends about two hours a day in his underwear managing a free dating website that gets twelve billion page views a year. He is the only employee, and he only has one server. And by the way, he makes $5-6 million/year with Google ads.

I’ve moderated many panels in my time, and if I had to choose one that entrepreneurs should watch, this is it. If you’re one guy/gal or two guys/gals in a garage, it will push all the right buttons, and you’ll love it. However, if your plan is to raise several million dollars from venture capitalists and then hire five engineers, one vp of biz dev, one CTO, two testers, and a vp of marketing to ship a product in a year, you probably shouldn’t spend your time watching it.

The members of the five-person panel provided many good insights into starting and funding a company today.

James Hong, Co-Founder, HotorNot.com
Dave Lu, CEO, Fanpop

The Mile-High Poop Club

Trouble with the lavatories on a Continental Airlines flight across the Atlantic Ocean (Amsterdam to Newark) on June 13 forced more than 200 passengers to endure the overflow of raw sewage on the jet.

Flight attendants even reportedly conducted their routine meal service, despite the unpleasant conditions. But they advised passengers not to eat or drink too much, since the lavatories were out of order – and they had a long way to go before landing in New Jersey.

New Legal Hallucinogen Identified - Salvia Divinorum

Legal, intense hallucinogen raises alarms
Salvia divinorum produces short, dreamlike experience

Salvia divinorum is a bright, leafy green plant from Mexico that when chewed or smoked causes intense hallucinations comparable to LSD or "magic mushrooms."

And it's legal in California.

The drug is available all over the Bay Area, mostly in smoke shops and herbal stores. It's also sold over the Internet. For $15 to $50 a hit, users get a high that sends them into a dream-like state for anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or two.

Unlike well-known illicit drugs such as marijuana or cocaine, salvia is not in widespread use. It hasn't caught the attention of state or local health departments. San Francisco police said that while they're aware of salvia, it's not yet a problem.

The plant is grown primarily in Oaxaca, Mexico, where for decades it has been used by the Mazatec shamans in religious ceremonies -- thus the "divination" in the name.

The Lion Whisperer

Animal behaviourist Kevin Richardson has such an intimate bond with big cats that he can spend the night curled up with them without the slightest fear of attack.

Richardson, 32, who is based in a wildlife conservation area near Johannesburg in South Africa, works his unusual magic on other species too. Cheetahs, leopards and even unpredictable hyenas hold no threats for him.

Cokehead Crop Circle

It may look like the latest aliens to land on our planet have been drinking and driving, but these bizarre patterns, discovered in a corn field in Holland, have a much more mundane explanation.

They were made by a drug user who was attempting to escape from police in his father's car. The man had been using cocaine.

Four police cars were damaged in a desperate attempt to prevent the crazed driver from reaching public roads, but they could not save the crop from irrepairable damage.

In the end, the man was captured when he crashed the car into a ditch.
