2 1/2 years too late - hit the road Armando

Thank the lord - Armando Benitez is on a plane to Milwaukee - to catch up with his NEW team the Florida Marlins. The Giants traded Benitez to Florida for 25-year-old reliever Randy Messenger, a 6-foot-6 right-hander used mostly in long relief. A source said the Giants also will pay $4.7 million of the roughly $5 million left on Benitez's three-year contract, which expires after this season.

What puzzles me (and 7 million+ other people) - why didn't the Giants deal this guy sooner - Benitez is and always will be a bum!!!

Trees From Around the World . . .

Here are a few pics of some interesting looking trees . . .

The one below was grown by a gardner and shaped to look this way . . .

This tree was the result of tying together six different trees and weaving them together as they grew . . .

Classic American BBQ

If you love Nascar, cold beer and shootin guns - you'll probably fall head over heels for one of these bad-ass backyard BBQs . . . Yee-haw!

Casino Carpet's

What the deal with Casino carpets??? Not only are they ugly, but they give me a major headache. I heard they design them this way to make it difficult for people to locate their chips when they drop them on the floor. Not sure if that's actually true - but it certainly looks that way.

McDonald's International Menu's

Ever wonder what McDonald's serves in Isreal, Japan or India. This blog lists all the different combinations. I must say - the McSpaghetti sounds pretty good (In 1993, a popular combo in the Philipines featured spaghetti with fried chicken wings).

Wolf Girl

This Thai girl is Supatra Sasuphan, nicknamed Nat. Apparently she lives a normal life, and a happy one. She looks happy. But she has a rare problem: Hypertrichosis, which as you can see causes hair to grow all over her face and body.

Here's apicture of thousands of daddy-long legs huddled together on the roof of some poor villager. Wow.

It's a Tumor . . .

Apparently Huang Liquan first noticed a little growth in his neck in 1990. But you know us men. It's no big deal, we don't wanna go to the doctor, it's not a toomah! After two years - Huang finally caved in and saw a doctor. I wonder what his wife was thinking . . . did she think it would go away?

What does $500 million look like???

Here is a picture of $500 million US dollars recently confiscated in Mexico from a large - very large, drug cartel.

Only in Spain

The Spanish newspaper Ideal Gallego reports today on one of the strangest traffic offences ever to be seen in Spain.

It happened last Friday when drivers on the motorway in Ferrol were surprised to see a disabled man travelling along the road in his motorised bed.

The paper says that 42 year old Antonio Navarro, who is 95% disabled, and who drives and controls his motorised bed with his mouth, had got drunk and was intending to visit ‘Jade’ a local whorehouse, but took a wrong turning off a local roundabout.

Ironic Moments in History

JOHANN UNDERWALD, a Swiss mathematician

Story: Underwald, one of the brightest stars in his field, was described by his peers as "the next Albert Einstein."

Final Irony: Underwald died in October 1999. Cause of death: mathematical error - Underwald "made a 250-foot bungee jump with a 300-foot bungee cord, and died immediately on impact."

DisneyLand: Uncovered

So here's a few interesting facts about DisneyLand. Did you know tha the entire park is actually built on a 'second story????' Underneath the park, at sea level, is a huge underground labryinth of tunnels used by characters, cast members (and monsters) to get from one stage to the other without having to fight the crowds.

Apparently they also collect trash and stock all the various food stations throughout the park via the underground tunnels. Cool.

Larry Ellison's Malibu Mansion

Welcome to Larry's Malibu Paradise. Below is a picture of his 'old' Malibu property, complete with it's own cable car. Apparently, the cable car is for taking guests down to the pool form the main house. It's a lot of stairs, so you can understand . . . Larry recently purchased 5 side-by-side properties on the Malibu Coast - plus a small hotel. I can see why - his old place looks pretty grim.

Google Co-Founder Weds

It'S a match made in search-engine heaven. Sergey Brin, the billionaire co-founder of Google, got hitched over the weekend to biotech analyst Anne Wojcicki, the sister of Susan Wojcicki, Google's director of product development. The brainy lovebirds tied the knot on magician David Copperfield's private 150-acre island Musha Cay in the Bahamas, which rents for $325,000 per week. While the groom continues as Google's president of technology, the bride is developing a start-up called, a Web site that promotes cutting-edge genetics technologies. Expect brainy kids in their future.

The only question I have in my head is - with all his money - is that the best he could do??? Oh dear . . .

Ouch! That's Gotta Hurt . . .

Shannon Malloy was critically injured January 25 when a car crash slammed her into the dashboard. Her skull separated from her spine, although her skin, spinal cord and other internal organs remained intact.

The rare condition is known as clinically as internal decapitation, and it left her with no control over her head.

Her injuries left Malloy with nerve damage that made her eyes cross, and she has difficulty swallowing. She was not paralyzed.

A will to survive kept Malloy, 30, alive long enough for surgeons to insert screws in her head and neck and attach a halo to minimize movement -- no easy task.

"My skull slipped off my neck about five times," Malloy said. "Every time they tried to screw this to my head, I would slip."

Doctors eventually stabilized her head and strengthened her neck. The halo has since been removed.

Nudist Photographer - Mexico

Over the weekend, an estimated 18,000 to 20,000 volunteer nude models joined artist Spencer Tunick in Mexico City for a photo opportunity unlike any you've ever seen before. Known for his nude 'photo-shoots' Spencer broke his previous record of 7,000 nudes shot in Barcelona.

Tunick, a New Yorker who was arrested multiple times when he began staging large-scale nude photo shoots in the early 1990s, has since become one of the world's best-known photographers. He has posed nudes in front of a statue of Simon Bolivar in Caracas, Venezuela, filled the streets of Montreal and Sao Paulo, Brazil, with them and marched them through a London department store.

What I'm thinking is - out of 20,000 nude mexican's, one or two had to be good looking. Right?

Wells Fargo to Buy Greater Bay Bancorp

Today, Greater Bay Bancorp announced that they will be aquired by Wells Fargo Bank - pending board approval on both sides. I copied the article from today's Wall Street Journal below.

Wells Fargo Agrees to Acquire
Greater Bay Bancorp for $1.5 Billion

May 4, 2007 9:15 a.m.

Wells Fargo & Co. Friday said it agreed to acquire Greater Bay Bancorp, a bank-holding company in the San Francisco Bay area, in a stock deal the companies valued at roughly $1.5 billion.

The deal targets Greater Bay's stock price at $28.50 a share. That is actually a discount to Thursday's closing price of $29.54. However, Greater Bay's stock price rose 11.6%, or $3.08, in Thursday trading, ahead of the merger announcement.

In recent pre-market trading, Greater Bay shares were at $28.20. Wells shares were unchanged at $35.84.

Greater Bay, East Palo Alto, Calif., has $7.4 billion in assets and more than 1,800 employees. It has 41 banking locations in the San Francisco Bay area under such names such as Mid-Peninsula Bank, Bank of Petaluma, Golden Gate Bank, Coast Commercial Bank, Peninsula Bank of Commerce, Mount Diablo National Bank, and Santa Clara Valley National Bank.

Greater Bay also owns ABD Insurance and Financial Services, an insurance broker with locations on the West Coast, and Matsco Financial Corp., a national lender primarily to veterinarians and dentists.

Under the agreement, expected to close in the fourth quarter, Greater Bay shareholders will receive an amount of Wells shares based on Wells's stock price. The measurement price will equal the average price of a Wells share for the 10 trading days preceding Greater Bay's shareholder meeting, at which Greater Bay holders will vote on the transaction.

If the Wells measurement price is greater than $32.175 and less than $39.325, the exchange ratio will be determined by dividing $28.50 by the measurement price, the companies said.

If the Wells measurement price is equal to or less than $32.175, then the exchange ratio will be 0.8858. If the Wells measurement price is greater than or equal to $39.325, then the exchange ratio will be 0.7247.

Assuming a Wells measurement price between $32.175 and $39.325, the total value of the transaction would be approximately $1.5 billion, based on Greater Bay's shares on a fully diluted basis, the companies said.

San Francisco-based Wells, a diversified financial services company, has assets of $486 billion. It provides banking, insurance, investments, mortgage and consumer finance through more than 6,000 locations and its Web site across North America and internationally.

Separately, Greater Bay posted first-quarter net income of $17.8 million, or 31 cents a share, compared with $26.2 million, or 46 cents a share, a year earlier.

The latest results included professional-servcies expenses of $1.5 million for strategic planning and $700,000 of pension-related expenses. First-quarter results also included $1.4 million in compensation expense, related to prior periods, and $400,000 in tax expense. The expenses were offset by a $1.5 million mark-to-market gain in the value of the company's venture capital and equity securities.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial were looking for first-quarter earnings, excluding items, of 39 cents a share.

50 Cent Mansion - For Sale

The 52-room mansion that rapper 50 Cent has called home for more than three years, an estate once owned by boxer Mike Tyson, is up for sale.

The rap artist (real name: Curtis James Jackson III) bought the 48,000-plus-square-foot house in September 2003 for $4.1 million.

Since buying the mansion, 50 Cent has reportedly spent up to $6 million renovating the house, including adding a helicopter pad.

Curt Clemens, owner of Century 21 Clemens & Sons in Hartford, told the Hartford Courant Wednesday that he toured the house a few months ago after being contacted by representatives of the rapper who said he wanted to sell the property.

Clemens, who was the listing agent on the house when it was owned by Tyson, said that he was notified a few weeks ago that another real estate agent would be handling the sale.

"I was surprised it hadn't come on the market because we were expecting it," Clemens said. "He's put a lot into it, and it's all very tasteful, except the stripper poles."
